The Somatic Chromosomes and Meiosis in Capsicum Sinha N. P. Department of Botany, King's College, University of Durham. Newcastle-on-Tyne, England Summary Two new chromosome numbers namely C. cordiforme and C. angulosum, both 2n=24 have been reported. The somatic chromosomes of C. frutescens, C. cordiforme, C. angulosum and three varieties of C. annuum have been described. The chromosomes are large, the majority having clear constrictions. Some of the species have either one or two satellites and the rest have none. Meiosis in C. cordiforme and C. frutescens is described. The former shows normal meiosis whereas the latter is completely asynaptic resulting in the formation of supernumerary and sterile microspores Top | |
