Abstract The paper aimed to find out whether ‘the smartphone’ one of the most popularly used gadgets in today s society, has become a substitute for the families of older adults or not. Twenty elderly persons of both sexes (Males=9, and Females = 11), ages varying from 60 years to 80 years, were purposively selected on the basis of two criteria: First, those who live alone without their families (both widows and couples), and second, the respondents who have smartphones, in this study.
