Abstract

The present study offers insights into the impact of Covid-19 induced lockdowns on tribal households. With the help of primary and secondary sources, the article attempted to critically analyze the nature and extent of socio-economic problems faced by the tribal households of Eastern Ghats, Tamil Nadu. It was observed that the tribal people were lagging behind other social groups regarding their awareness level about the corona virus spread. The study revealed that the shutdown forced migrant labourers to remain in their tribal hamlets and look for local livelihood options. Further analysis of the data revealed the restricted movement of tribes to forest areas, lack of non-farm activities and poor availability of nutritional facilities that the tribal population had to face.
