Abstract Objective To study the correlation of Imprint cytology and Histopathology of benign and malignant tumors in a teaching hospital. Method 100 surgical specimens received in the department of pathology were prospectively evaluated by histopathology and imprint cytology. Results Out of 100 cases,78 cases were benign and 22 malignant.66 benign cases were correctly diagnosed, and 16 malignant cases was correctly diagnosed. For benign lesions (overall) there was a significant correlation (P>0.5) between imprint cytology and histopathology. On correlation analysis, Pearson's correlation, r was 0.872. The accuracy of IC for diagnosis of benign tumors was found to 87.2%. For malignant lesions (overall) there was a significant correlation (P>0.5) between imprint cytology and histopathology. On correlation analysis, Pearson's correlation, r was 0.746. The accuracy of imprint cytology in diagnosing malignant tumor was found to be74.6%. Conclusion Imprint smear is rapid technique for diagnosis & can be utilized for adjuvant to histological diagnosis. Top Keywords Imprint cytology, Histopathology, tumors, correlation analysis. Top |
