Abstract

Today, there is a trend towards establishing the medical humanities as a component of medical education. The value of the medical humanities to undergraduate medical education is now well established. However, there has been little discussion about medical humanities in graduate training, and many of the ideas considered in this article are relevant to CPD courses.

This review article discusses the value of the medical humanities within the medical curriculum. It explores the place of the humanities in medical graduate training, what a curriculum might look like and which texts it might be useful to include in courses. This review study also discusses the instrumental and non-instrumental role of the humanities in the education of medical profession.
