Philosophy and physical education Dr. Khalatkar Sanjay Head of the Department of Physical Education, Santaji Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur Online published on 24 March, 2021. Abstract Philosophy is the pursuit of truth and the resultant knowledge and values. Idealism, realism, pragmatism, naturalism and existentialism have influenced the growth of physical education. Several branches of philosophy, such as aesthetics and logic, have contributed to the development of physical education programs. Ethics is a branch of philosophy that deals with moral values. The practical application of philosophical theories will help you develop a personal philosophy of physical education. Philosophy, often misunderstood and neglected, provides focus, a communication bond, a clarity of vision and an opportunity to analyze the present to expand one's horizons for the future. The pursuit of knowledge through logical reasoning and analysis is as pervasive today as it was during the development of several diverse philosophies. The importance of philosophy, focuses on five of the traditional philosophies, with emphasis on how they have influenced physical education. Other philosophies are included because of their similar impact. Based on the knowledge gained from this study, each of you is encouraged to develop a personal philosophy of physical education.
