Abstract

Partition is one of the saddest and horrendous events in the history. Millions of people were displaced from their homeland and separated from their near and dear ones. It has not only affected the lives of Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs but also the lives of the people who were not the part of these religions. These people were not the privileged sections of the society but the people who have been marginalized since ages. However, most of the researchers and the historians in dealing the topic of partition always deal with the issue of tragedies regarding Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims. They hardly talk about the people on the periphery of the society. Urvashi Butalia’s seminal work on partition The Other Side of Silencehowever, devoted one small section of the book recounting the stories of the people from the margins under title ‘Margins’. The present research paper is an attempt to throw light on the pain of the marginalized and the discrimination they were meted out by Indian as well as Pakistani Government.
