Abstract

The most challenging task is to struggle for the respect and true emancipation of women, especially not in the wakefulness of men but also of women. It is commendable that English female poets have treated the poetry of anxiety and extremeness with respect. Women writers took on the task of creating an image by raising awareness of gender issues through their poetry because, in the post-independence era, when women and men should have ideally been granted equal rights in all spheres, women in India still struggle to obtain their due respect and sense of individual identity. According to postcolonial feminist theory, patriarchy and colonialism are historically intertwined and that patriarchy still oppresses women decades after British colonialism. With the objective to apply this theory to the selected poems of Doshi and Kandasamy, the paper endeavors to demonstrate their desire for a change in the status of women from oppression to self-realization.
