Abstract

Assam is endowed with large number of wetlands, which are rich in biodiversity and have immense potential for tourism promotion. The wetlands also play a vital role in maintaining the quality environment and reducing the flood damage by retaining huge quantity of storm water. Unparallel beauty of the wetlands and the opportunities provided by these water bodies for economic resource generation made these most useful resources in the state. But due to natural and mainly due to man induced causes these are dwindling day by day. As such restoration of wetland environment is extremely important at this moment. To start with the Deepar beel, the only Ramsar site in Assam has been selected for eco-restoration. Considering the vastness of the wetland only the southern part of it has been taken for the eco-restoration study. In this paper, how the eco-restoration has been proposed with the background knowledge gathered from different wetland sites of the world and physical measurement of the site using different equipments have been presented. Structures have been proposed for education, preservation, recreation as well as income generation of the poorer section of people of the surrounding area. The infrastructures designed in the study have been done in computer using the softwares – Autocad and 3Ds Max.
