Abstract The research work was carried out at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (U.P.) during the year 2021-2022 to investigate the effect of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) on growth and seed yield of coreopsis (Coreopsis auriculata). The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with five replications. Eight doses of sodium nitroprusside (200 μM, 400 μM, 600 μM, 800 μM, 1000 μM, 1200 μM, 1400 μM and 1600 μM) were applied as foliar spray after 25 days of transplanting along with the control (untreated plants). Results revealed that different SNP concentrations remarkably influenced different growth parameters and seed yield attributes in coreopsis. Maximum plant height was observed with SNP at 1200 μM over the control. Maximum number of primary and secondary branches plant-1 were observed with SNP at 1400 μM. Whereas, maximum plant spread and 1000-seed weight were observed with SNP at 1000 μM. Fresh weight of leaf, early seed ripening and leaf area index were recorded maximum with SNP at 1400 μM. Whereas, maximum number of seed plant-1, seed yield plant-1 and seed yield m-2 were recorded with SNP at 1200 μM.
