Response of bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) To plant growth regulators

Abstract

The field experiment was conducted at Vegetable Research Farm of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) during spring season of 2019-20 on bottle guard [Lagenaria siceraria (Mol.) Standl.]. The results of the study clearly indicated that the maximum vine length (412.91 cm) and vine diameter (21.58 mm) was recorded significantly in treatment T3 (NAA 350 ppm). The minimum vine length (330.08 cm) and vine diameter (14.25 mm) was observed in T0 (control) plots. Influence of different treatments on minimum first male flower days anthesis (46.83) was observed in treatment T6 (GA3 150 ppm). Minimum female flower days anthesis (41), minimum number of male flowers (81.33) and maximum number of female flowers (17.58) per plant, narrowest sex ratio (male : female) (4.63:1) was observed in treatment T9 (Ethrel 200 ppm) as compared to other treatments; whereas maximum male flower days anthesis (56.16) was observed in treatment T3 (NAA 350 ppm). Maximum female flower days anthesis (56.66) was observed in treatment T0 (control). Maximum number of male flowers (135.08) and minimum number of female flowers (8.41) per plant produced and widest (16.10:1) sex ratio was observed in treatment T6 (GA3 150 ppm). The maximum fruit length (40.67 cm), fruit diameter (7.92 cm), fruit weight (889.67 g), number of fruit per vine (13.84), fruit yield (49.27 kg plot-1 and 328.67 q ha-1) was obtained under treatment T9 (Ethrel 200 ppm), whereas minimum fruit length (27.67 cm), fruit diameter (5.34 cm), fruit weight (636.08 g) in the control treatment. From the study, it was concluded that bottle gourd plants of cv. ‘Kalyanpur long green’ when sprayed with Ethrel 200 ppm produced the maximum yield attributes and fruit yield.
