A study of value Education programmes in The Secondary Schools: A Review

Abstract

At present, it has been found that there is pure deterioration of values in schools, mainly due to the materialistic settings where much importance is given to the material world and not to the humanistic world. The values present a true perspective of the development of any society or nation. They tell us to what extent a society or nation has developed itself. But today we are facing the problem of value degeneration. The investigator believes that Values are deeply related with our life span, they are concerned with aims of our life and they direct us to move and behave in various life situations. Education plays a very important and significant role in shaping the value system of the individuals from the very beginning of one's life like. Values education is also a part of life that is why values and education are inseparable values are embodied in educational practice. Therefore, on the basis of value judgment, education develops a sense of discrimination among individual between right and wrong, good and bad, fair and unfair, etc. and all these values are learned in teaching learning situations from nursery to higher level ladder of education and this is inculcated through value education programme.
