Abstract Introduction Menstruation is a milestone eventin agirl's life and the beginning of reproductive life hence, all aspects of menstruation need to be understood by adolescent girls. Better understanding of the good menstruation hygiene is crucial for the education health and dignity of girls and women being an important sanitation issue which has long been in the closet still there is a long-standing need to discuss it. Most of the time adolescent girls are unprepared in items of knowledge, skills and attitudes for managing the menstrual cycle. Aim The purpose of the present study was to assess the knowledge and practice of adolescent girls regarding menstrual hygiene in selected schools of Jalalabad (W) Fazilka, Punjab. Material and Methods A quantitative descriptive research approach and design was used to assess the knowledge and practice regarding menstrual hygiene among 100 adolescent girls selected through the non probability purposive sampling technique. Self structured questionnaire was used for collection of data. Datacollected is analyzed with descriptive statistics. Results Finding of the study reveals that 30% adolescent girls have average knowledge, 64%have good knowledge and only 6% have excellent knowledge. Regarding practices 65% of girls were taking all type of diet and 42% were taking all types of measure to reduce pain. 43% girls using water to wash genital area and majority 97% girls were using sanitary pads as an absorbent. 86% adolescent girls were dry their undergarments under sunlight, 75% girls change their sanitary pad within 3-6 hours and 40% girls were using cotton based separate undergarments. Conclusion Study concluded that adolescent girls having less knowledge and poor practices regarding menstrual hygiene and is more vulnerable to reproductive tract infections.
