Abstract

The purpose of this review is to make dental professionals aware of various effects of radiotherapy on soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. With increase of incidence of oral cancer and subsequent increase in public awareness and accessibility to dental treatment, the number of people deciding on radiotherapy as a treatment modality has considerably increased. Consequently, there is an increase in the number of patients visiting dental clinics who are or have undergone therapeutic treatment. However, along with the knowledge of the benefits of the radiotherapy, it is important to learn about the side-effects of the same as well. Therefore, this review will make the dental professionals aware of the potential side-effects of radiotherapy on the hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity.
