Abstract

Asurvey was conducted during Rabi-2022 in different blocks ofAligarh district ofUttar Pradesh to determinethedisease incidence and severity of early blight of tomato caused by Alternaria solani. One hundred twenty fields were surveyed in alltwelve blocks ofAligarh and thepathogen A. solani was found widely distributed in most of the tomato fields in the locality. Overall the frequency of disease incidence was found to be 12.7%. Among the various blocks surveyed, the maximum disease incidence was recorded in Jawan (24.3%) followed by Tappal (22%), Gangiri (20.5%), and Iglas (18.6%). The lowest incidence of early blight was found in Bijauli block (7.5%). The disease severity in the form of percent disease index (PDI)at 0-5 scale was also recorded and it was found highest in Tappal(2.67) and lowest (1.12) in Akrabad block. The study has demonstrated that the occurrence and incidence of A. solaniwere alarming and very high in the tomato fields of the Aligarh district. Thus, it is essential to conduct regular surveys and extension work to inspect the infestation of A. solani and to suggest proper management options.
