Fear of falling, which develops in 20% to 39% of people who fall, can lead to further limiting activity, independent of injury. According to Morse, inpatient falls can be classified into three categories: accidental falls (derived from extrinsic factors, such as environmental considerations), anticipated physiologic falls (derived from intrinsic physiologic factors, such as confusion), and unanticipated physiologic falls (derived from unexpected intrinsic events, such as a new onset syncopal event or a major intrinsic event such as stroke). With regard to effectiveness of PTP on knowledge regarding fall assessment scale among IPD staff nurses, the standard deviation of pretest score is 14.7 and the post test score is 25.025 The calculated ‘t’ is 3.088 and the tabled ‘t’ is 2.02 with 39 df at 0.05 level of significance. The improvement of knowledge regarding fall assessment scale in improving patient care and safety of patients among staff nurses working in the IPD (ICU) set ups has an important play in enabling the effectiveness of planned teaching program as an independent nursing intervention.
