Abstract

The government of India launched the Stand Up India scheme on 5th April 2016. Stand Up India scheme caters to promoting entrepreneurship amongst women, SC & ST category i.e those section of the population facing significant hurdles due to lack of advice/mentorship as well as inadequate and delayed credit. The scheme intends to leverage the institutional credit structure to reach out to these underserved sectors of the population in starting greenfield enterprise. It caters to both ready and trainee borrowers. However many independent researches done on the SUI scheme reveal that there are many problems and inconsistencies in the programme. Problems like lack of information’s to the entrepreneurs, lack of interest from the banks to lend loans, and lack of support to the entrepreneurs etc made the programme less effective. Keeping the above views, the present paper is designed with the following objectives; 1. To give a brief note on Entrepreneurship development among Marginalised Sections and Stand up India Scheme; 2. To discuss the problems associated with the Standup India Scheme; 3. To suggest suitable policy prescriptions to the problems. The paper is based on the secondary sources of data, which was gathered from publications of government departments, newspapers, journals, and books.
