Abstract

Langston Hughes is one of the major black American literary figures of the 20th century. His writing comprises poetry, fiction, short stories, autobiography and criticism. His writings concentrate on the story of the Blackman in America - his joys, sorrows and hopes. Hughes essentially focuses upon black pride and dignity. His contribution is matchless in putting blacks in the forefront in his writings. From the 1920s to the 1960s in particular, Hughes is incredible in understanding and portraying blacks’ life in America as he was a leading voice of the Harlem Renaissance and an important figure in establishing and shaping the Black identity. He always celebrates his black features and traits and a sense of negritude in his art.
