Abstract

An examination of the phenomenon of female work participation presents a curious mix of economic and non-economic factors operating upon and influencing each other. The phenomenon of female work participation derives its distinctiveness from the non-economic forces such as social-culture attitudes and perceptions. These sociocultural behavior patterns are derivatives of the prevalent patriarchal systems that assign lower status value of female, and their work. The exploration of female work participation is a challenging task in that non-economic variable which affects the economic functioning of the child lalbour markets. This paper attempts to define the meaning of female work participation rate and incidence of female work participation across the districts of Haryana based on Indian Census data 2001.
