Performance evaluation of stochastic model of footwear machine having laxity of neglected faults

Abstract

This paper uses stochastic modeling of a unit considering two types of faults i.e. mechanical and electrical types of faults during operation of the machine to evaluate the performance of a footwear machine at Relaxo Footwear Limited, Bahadurgarh (Haryana). These faults are further divided into minor, major and neglected faults. Minor faults are repairable as well as major faults are not repairable and for the purpose of calculation in this paper, it is assumed that there is a single serviceman facility for repair and replacement etc. After ignoring the neglected faults for a long time, it becomes the major faults. Taking all these aspects into consideration and using actual data collected from footwear industry, various measures of system effectiveness like MTSF, reliability, expected up time and busy period etc. are obtained using semi-markov process and regenerative point technique are done. Machine performance is evaluated using numerical results and graphs. From the graph thus obtained, we get profit for different values of rate of minor, major faults/expected time/cost etc., which will be helpful for the management team of footwear industry to make footwear machine more yielding.
