Abstract

Image processing is the use of computer techniques and algorithms to work with digital images. The field of computer science has been in advancement for a long time and has found wide applications in the field of medical sciences such as Radiology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound etc. In this fast moving world, pollution and smoking habits have shown a drastic impact in the increase of diseases like Lung Cancer. This paper deals with the automated detection of lung cancer nodules from Computed Tomography images using image processing techniques. The various techniques involved here is image conversion, image preprocessing, image segmentation, object identification, feature extraction and classification. This ultimate aim of this work is to automatically classify the nodules as benign or malignant using MATLAB techniques. Such a system can help doctors identify nodules with utmost ease and more accuracy.
