Abstract Since 1989, there are many image encryption methods are introduced based on the chaos algorithm. Almost in every method a secret key for encryption and decryption is used that are independent of the plain image. In this paper, we propose a secured image encryption and decryption method that is based on the chaotic sequence mapping. Our method consists of two important steps like encryption and decryption process. At first, the original images are encrypted by using the chaotic mapping algorithm. Secondly, the original images are retrieved back from the encrypted image by using the key that is specified during the encryption process for the decryption of the original images. Then the histogram mapping is done for the encrypted and the decrypted images. The proposed system is tested on well-known images like Lena, Mandrill, Clown and Barbara.
