Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Navile, UAHS, Shivamogga during kharif 2012–13 and 2013–14 to study the effect of use of FYM and NPK fertilizers on yield of crops and soil chemical properties. The soil was sandy clay loam in texture, high in available P, sufficient in Ca, Mg, low in organic carbon, water holding capacity, available Kand available S. Theexperiment wasconducted with ten treatments in RCBD design with three replication. The treatment receiving FYM @7.5 ton per ha + 100 per cent NPK fertilizers recorded significantly higher grain (4013.5 kg/ha) and straw yield (6213.5 kg/ha) of finger millet in rotationwith groundnut. This trend wascommon in all the groundnut rotation treatment as compared to monocropping of fingermillet. Groundnut recorded significantly higher pod (1508.6 kg/ha) and stover yield (1830.5 kg/ha) in plot receiving FYM @7.5 ton per ha alone treatment as compared to integrated and NPK alone treatment. Significantly lower grain (2493.3 kg/ha)and straw(3780.7kg/ha)yield of finger millet was recorded in NPK alone with monocropping of fingermillet. Significantly higher soil pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, available NPKS, exchangeable Ca and Mg was observed in the treatment receiving FYM alone or integrated with NPK fertilizers as compared to NPK alone or control. Significantly decrease in soil pH was noticed in application of NPK alone after harvest of finger millet and groundnut crop.
