Effect of Cutting Management and Sulphur Application on Growth and Herbage Yield of Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)

Abstract

The study was conducted during 2012–13 to find out the effect of cutting management and sulphur application on growth of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) at Vegetable Research Station, Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. Anexperiment was laid out in Randomized Block Designwith factorial concept comprising 16 treatments replicated thrice. It consisted of cutting as one factor containing four cutting treatments. Sulphur level was taken as another factor which consisted of four different sulphur treatments. Each plot size was 4 x 3 m and laid as flat beds. The investigation resulted in maximum plant height with no cutting (C0) in all different crop growth stages. Maximum number of branches per plant recorded with single cutting at 30 DAS (C1). Whereas maximum fresh weight (g) and dry matter (g) per plant recorded with double cutting at 30 and 60 DAS (C3). Whereas maximum root length andnumber of root nodules per plant with No cutting (C0). Cutting at 30 and 60 DAS (C3) recorded maximum herbage yield per plant (3.32g). Maximum plant height, number of branches per plant, fresh weight per plant, dry weight per plant and herbage yield per plant, maximum root length and maximum number of root nodules recorded with application of 60 kg sulphur per hectare in fenugreek.
