Online published on 15 December, 2016. Abstract Livestock animal husbandry practices and agriculture are the most important sources of national economy. Establishment of a livestock farm, proper healthcare and management practices require remarkable investments. Furthermore, these animals are frequently reported to be affected by a large number of diseases and disorders and have different types of disease-distribution patterns throughout India. Such diseases and disorders either directly or indirectly cause economic losses affecting the national economy. Tremendous efforts have been made with special reference to diagnostics and therapeutics of such economically devastating diseases of livestock animals in India; however, the ‘techno-economic aspect’ of animal health and disease has been investigated to very a limited extent. This paper specifically deals with elucidation and appraisal of the techno-economics of animal diseases based on the results obtained from six different basic studies carried out between 1997 and 2014 at Department of Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Anand, Gujarat.
