Online published on 15 December, 2016. Abstract Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is a rich source of edible oil and oleic acid and linoleic acid are the two major fatty acids determining the oil quality. High oleate lines derived from backcross breeding were evaluated two seasons for thei oil quality and foliar diseases. For pod yield per plant (g), recombinant line 74-1-1-9 (27 and 24.87 with mean of 25.87 g) found to be superior across two seasons compared to recurrent parent, GPBD 4 (22.5 and 19.2 with mean of 20.88g) and other advanced backcross lines also superior in high oleic acid, protein content with resistance to spodoptera litura and on par with GBPD 4 for oil content and foliar disease resistance. High oleate lines identified from different backcrosses can be evaluated under large scale yield trials in different locations to identify and commercialize stable high yielding and high oleic acid content recombinants identified. Top Keywords High oleate, backcross, oleic acid, peanut, foliar diseases. Top |
