Abstract

In the present study, different pesticides were evaluated for their efficacy against fruit borer in Mrig bahar for two years, 2005 and 2006. The spray treatments of 0.018% spinosad, 0.0022% emamectin benzoate, 0.15% thiodicarb, 0.002% deltamethrin and 5% neem seed extract (NSE) were evaluated on the basis of damaged fruits by borer (%), fruit yield (t ha-1) and economics of treatment. Each spray treatment was consisting of three sprays applied at an interval of about three weeks by initiating from the fruit setting. On untreated plants, the recorded fruit damage was 26.33% with the yield of 6.28 t ha1. Spray treatment of emamectin benzoate and spinosad could minimize the fruit damage to 2.37 and 3.21% and recorded the yield of 11.10 and 10.93 t ha-1, respectively. Next performing treatments were thiodicarb and deltamethrin. Spray of NSE was least effective with insignificant yield over untreatedplants. Net gain per hectare was maximum of Rs. 88, 495 in spray treatment of emamectin benzoate followed by spinosad (Rs. 85, 060), deltamethrin (Rs. 48, 532) and thiodicarb (Rs. 47, 100). Spray treatments of newly developed biomolecule base pesticides emamectin benzoate (0.0022%) and spinosad (0.018%) at the dose of 11 and 90 g a.i. ha-1 spray-1 respectively, can be considered most suitable for minimizing the damage caused by fruit borer without showing adverse effects on natural enemies and risk of persisting residues in fruits to consumer's health.
