Online published on 15 December, 2016. Abstract The study was conducted to check the performance of on farm curing Gadget for onion in developed on farm low cost modular gadget with white weathering roofing tiles in southern part of India. The study was undertaken at Alathur Gate, Perambulur District & Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Curing of onion (CO-3) in developed modular gadget was investigated. The modular gadget was equipped with a network of temperature sensors (30 numbers) that allowed for online measurement of temperature inside the modular gadget at a time interval of one hour. The ambient temperature, relative humidity and velocity of air recorded, were used to study the temperature variations inside the developed modular curing gadget for a period of 7 days. The developed modular gadget was evaluated by analysing some physicochemical parameters of onion like physiological weight loss, colour, TSS, ascorbic acid, quercetin content, pyruvate content, comparing with the traditional method of curing during the period of curing. The efficiency of the developedmodular on farmgadget washigher than traditional methods of curing. Top Keywords curing, physiological weight loss, TSS, quercetin content, pyruvate content. Top |
