Population Dynamics of Castor Semilooper, Achaea janata Linnaeus (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) on Castor

Abstract

Investigations were carried out on population dynamics of castor semilooper, Achaea janata Linnaeus during 2009–2010 and 2010–2011 at College farm, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari. The activity of A. janata on castor commenced from 43^rd SMW (4^th week of October) and remained active till 15^th SMW (2^nd week of April). The peak population was observed during 52^nd SMW (4^th week of December). The pest population gradually decreased from 1^st SMW (1^st week of January). However, the minimum population was observed in 43^rd SMW (4^th week of October). The correlation between the pest population of A. janata and maximum temperature (r=-0.724), minimum temperature (r=0.764), morning relative humidity (r=-0.472), evening relative humidity (r=-0.471) and evaporation (r=0.592) were significantly negative.
