Online published on 15 December, 2016. Abstract The seeds of Chironji (Buchnania lanzan Spreng.) were treated with GA3 (200 and 300 ppm), NAA (200 and 300 ppm), KNO3 (1 and 2 per cent), scarification like mechanical scarification and acid scarification and soaking in distilled water as control for 24 hours. Germination and seedling growth parameters at definite intervals were recorded to find out the effect of these treatments on germination of Chironji seed. Increase in germination percentage (71.43%), and decrease in number of days taken (22.24 days) for initiation of germination was noticed in seeds subjected to mechanical scarification treatment, at par with treatment of acid scarification and GA3 200 ppm. The maximum plant height (36.67cm), seedling girth (1.91 cm), number of leaves (15), fresh and dry weight of shoots (14.30g and 8.33g, respectively), fresh and dry weight of roots (8.33 g and 4.33g, respectively) and root length (31.33cm) was recorded under mechanical scarification. Pre sowing treatment like mechanical scarification, acid scarification and GA3 200 ppm was foundequally better on germination and growth parameters of chironji seedlings at 180 days after sowing. The root stocks were also attains graftable size in minimum days (166 to176) under the same treatments. Top Keywords Chironji, Buchnania lanzan Spreng, Germination, GA3, NAA, KNO3, Scarification.
