Abstract

Export performance of marine products i.e. country wise and species wise from India was assessed on three important parameters. These parameters were compound growth rate, instability and diversification. Time series secondary data of export of marine products for the period from 1995–96 to 2013–14 were used which was collected from MPEDA website. The frequency of export data was annual. Compound growth rate was calculated by employing exponential model. The parameters of the model were estimated with the help of Marquardt algorithm. Instability and diversification was estimated with the help of Cuddy Della Valle instability index and Simpson diversity index, respectively. Results shows that, the export of Fr. Fin Fish in quantity term was highest followed by Fr. Shrimp whereas in value terms maximum earning of US dollar was come from export of Fr. Shrimp followed by Fr. Fin Fish. China was the major importer of Indian marine products inquantityterm whereas in value term European Unionwasranked first. The maximum growth in export of marine products was seen in South East Asia both in quantity and value terms. In species group maximum growth in quantity and value term was seen in Dried Item and Chilled Item, respectively. Most notable features observed that, higher instability in export was seen where maximum growth was recorded. High level of diversity in export of marine products was seen in county group both in quantity and value term but in species group high level of diversification was seen only in quantity term and moderatelevel of diversificationwasobserved in value term.
