Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Research farm, Cotton Research Station, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh (Gujarat) during 2010–11 and 2011–12 to evaluate the effect of pre and post sowing weed management on weeds, growth and yield of Bt cotton based intercropping system. The experiment consists of six pre and post sowing weed management practices in which groundnut was grown as intercrop. The results of the experiment revealed that significant reduction in weed fresh and dry weight by pre sowing weedmanagement practices with removal of germinated weeds one week after irrigation i.e. one week before sowing with hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS or by weed control with stale seedbed using glyphosate 1 kg/ha + pendimethalin 1 kg/ha + 1 hand weeding at 40 DAS. The effective suppression of weeds at critical stages in the above said treatment was reflected in the increasing of cotton as well as cotton based intercrop groundnut production.
