The Social and Health Problems of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Lucknow Uttar Pradesh Kumar Arjit Associate Professor, SLIMS Pudducherry, Bharath University, Chennai Online published on 15 December, 2017. Abstract HIV-related stigma and discrimination refers to prejudice, negative attitudes and abuse directed at people living with HIV and AIDS. In 35% of countries with available data, over 50% of men and women report having discriminatory attitudes towards people living with HIV. The consequences of stigma and discrimination are wide-ranging. Some people are shunned by family, peers and the wider community, while others face poor treatment in healthcare and educational settings, erosion of their an rights, and psychological damage. These all limit access to HIV testing, treatment and other HIV services.
