Abstract The field experiment was conducted during the rabi season of 2000–01 and 2001–02 on loamy sand soil of Jobner (Rajasthan) to find out the effect of irrigation, foliar spray of sulphuric acid and seed soaking treatments on Indian mustard {Brassica Juncea (L.) Czernj & Cosson}. The experiment was laid out in split plot design and replicated thrice. Application of three irrigations at branching, flowering and siliqua development stages significantly increased the RLWC, CSI and MSI at 60 and 85 DAS and CGR, RGR and NAR at 60–90 DAS & 90–120 DAS, LAI at 90 & 120 DAS, oil yield and protein content over one (flowering) and two irrigations(floweringand siliqua development), respectively. Increasing levels of irrigation significantly enhanced N, P and K content and total uptake. Foliar spray of sulphuric acid(0.1%) significantly increased the MSI at 60 & 85 DAS, CGR at 60–90 DAS & 90–120 DAS, oil content, oil yield and total uptake of N, P, K and WUE over control. Presoaking of seeds with thiourea (0.05%) significantly increased the CGR, NAR, LAI, oil yield, total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium uptake over control (dry seed). The highest WUE obtained under two irrigations (8.54 kg/ha mm) as compared to one and three irrigations.
