Abstract

Agricultural marketing covers the services involved in moving an agricultural product from the Farm to the consumer. Numerous interconnected activities are involved in doing this, such as planning production, growing and harvesting, grading, packing, transport, storage, agro -and food processing, distribution advertising and sale,(Rajendran G., & Karthikesan P.(2014). In this paper an attempt has been taken to high light some of the practical problems related to production and marketing of Potato crop in Jalpaiguri District. Potato is grown in more than 100 countries, under temperate, subtropical and tropical conditions. It is essentially a «cool weather crop», with temperature being the main limiting factor on production. Potato is a versatile, carbohydrate-rich food highly popular worldwide and prepared and served in a variety of ways. Production, marketing, storage, transportation, of potato crop involves income and employment of many people including both, male and female. It also involves foreign exchange earnings, agro based industrial growth, and subsequent government policies etc. Hence potato production and marketing touches every aspects of the economy. Hence exploring the production difficulties and marketing obstacles of potato crop may be helpful for the policy makers to formulate some remedial measures.
