Abstract The socio-economic survey was carried out at Navibandar fishing village in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat state to evaluate the socio-economic condition of fishermen families and to find out means and scope for development of the fishing village. This investigation was done during April to May 2013. The fishing village was surveyed with personal interview, direct and indirect observation method. In this investigation, the population was surveyed for socioeconomic status, family size, income & occupational patterns, age and gender structure, education, customs & beliefs, religion, standard of living, village problems, fishing techniques, fish catch composition, financial aspects, and role of women. Recommendations have been proposed for the improvement in socio-economic condition of fishermen families and overall growth of the village through some change in policies of government & community, diversification of occupation and development of entrepreneurship with the judicial utilization of natural resources available in the village.
