Abstract

Domestic dog is affected by various diseases and disorders which cause variable rates of morbidity and mortality by affecting different bodily systems including the urinary system. The present study was carried out to evaluate the status of urinary dysfunctions caused by different etiologies in hospital population of dogs at Anand, Gujarat. A total of 4789 dogs presented at institutional clinics between February-2015 to January-2016 were screened for diagnosis of etiolgoeis responsible for urinary dysfunctions out of which, 136 dogs were diagnosed with different types of urinary dysfunctions based on history and clinical examination with an overall prevalence of 02.84%. Amongst two major categories of etiologies responsible for causing urinary dysfunctions in the study population of dogs, the overall prevalence of infectious and non-infectious etiologies were recorded as 66.18% and 33.82% respectively. The data from the study provides key and baseline information on status of underlying etiologies responsible for urinary dysfunctions in dogs which would be helpful as a guideline for future researchers working on renal diseases in dogs.
