Abstract In the north-eastern states mostly piggery, back yard poultry farming and diary is practiced (in case of Sikkim only. Depending on the quantum of consumption of pork for some states pigs are imported from Jharkand and Bihar. Apart from imported pigs, it is also reared by households and sold to consumers for pork. Price of locally reared pig are more than imported ones. In case of Mizoram, poultry rearing is found in commercial scale. In Nagaland, due higher altitude and prevailing low temperature, farmers prefer to rear back yard poultry for meat and as well as egg consumption. Top | |
