Abstract

A study was conducted in Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry to transform FYM and urban compost into enriched urban compost and FYM through addition of micronutrients and microbial consortia which has multiple benefits to cropping system. Enriched urban compost and FYM were prepared by mixing withboron as borax @ 0.5 kg and zinc as zinc sulfate @ 1kg per tonne of compost thoroughly, cured for twoweeks by maintaining ideal moisture. Later enriched composts are mixed with microbial consortia @ rate of 1kg and cured for one more week and applied to the soil two weeks prior to sowing. There was increase in boron, zinc and sulfur content with the enrichment. The biological properties viz., N fixers, P solubilizers, dehydrogenase, urease, acid and alkaline phosphatase activity increased in enriched urban compost and FYM with micronutrient and microbial enrichment.
