Abstract

Studies on influence of weather parameters were carried out on pod weevil, Apion sp., in mungbean (Vigna radiata (L) Wilczek), urdbean (Vina mungo (L) Hepper) and cowpea (Vigna unguicidata (L) Waip.) during k.har 1992 and 1993. JndMdually all weather parameters expressed negative correlations with weevil population excepting maximum temperature. Per cent van ability explained was veiy high for minimum temperature, gIL and wind speed. Combined effect of all the parameters revealed that both the temperatures had direct negative influence on pest abundance in mungbean and urdbean while in cowpea maximum temperature showed high negative and minimum temperature high positive values. Morning humidity expressed direct negative effect In all the three crops while ewning RH was ncgative in rnungbean and positive in urdbean and copea. Direct effect of wind speed was negatively high in all the crops. This shows that weevil prefers lower temperature, lower humidity and calni atmosphere for its activity and abundance. Mathematical models were developed. Values of R and R? ranged from 0.6620–0.8504 and 0.3869–0.7232, respectively on above crops which are significantly high to justify their role.
