Abstract

Carbon stock in Eucalyptus tereticornis based agroforestry system was estimated in eleven blocks of Saharanpur district of Utter Pradesh. Data were recorded on tree parameters from boundary plantation of 2 to 10 years ages on farmer's fields. Average tree height and diameter at breast height (dbh) were found to be 7.15 m and 5.87 cm at the age of 2 years, which grew to 19.26 m and 16.70 cm at 6 years and increased upto 28.41 m and 24.77 cm, respectively at the age of 10 years. The average wood volume (m3 tree−1) was estimated to be 0.13 at 6-years age, 0.254 at 8-years age and 0.354 at 10-years age. Estimation of biomass productivity varied from 13.6 t ha−1 for 6-year old to 33.81 t ha−1 for 10-year old plantations. Carbon stock was estimated to be 6.122 t ha−1 for 6-year old, 11.916 t ha−1 for 8-year-old and 16.649 t ha−1 for 10year-old plantation by considering tree density of 200 trees ha−1. CO2 equivalent carbon come out to be 22.45 t C ha−1 for 6-year-old, 43.69 t C ha−1 for 8-year-old and 61.05 t C ha−1 for 10-year-old plantation.
