Recommended seed treatments like chlorpyriphos 20EC (4.5 ml/kg) and fipronil 5SC (6 ml/kg) were evaluated at single and double doses with five common varieties namely, HD 2643, PBW 590, DPW 621-50, PBW 550 and HD 2987. The varietal sensitivity in the descending order was observed to be: PBW 550 > PBW 590 >HD 2643 > DPW 621-50 > HD 2987. When malformed seedlings were counted, it was observed that malformation was maximum with PBW 550 followed by PBW 590, DPW 621-50, HD 2643 and HD 2987. The seedling length was observed to be maximum with variety HD 2987.
