Online published on 15 December, 2016. Abstract Garlic in Indian subcontinent is such non-flowering spice crop where improvement using clonal selection from available germplasm in different regions is practiced. A broad spectrum of variability in a population is pre-requisite for improvement of any crop. Therefore the experiment carried out using 13 garlic cultivars and one wild mutant variety in Randomized Block Design (RBD) by taking three replications. Observation were recorded for yield and yield contributing traits i.e. No. of Leave/Plant, Length of Leaves/Plant (cm), No. of Cloves/bulb, No. of Stomata/Microscopic field, Length of Stomata (ìm), Breadth of Stomata (ìm) and Yield of bulb/plant (gm). The meanperformance indicated that the wild (mutant) garlic exhibited maximum number of leaves per plant, length of leaves per plant, stomatal length and breadth as compare to other varieties. The variety GG-2, GG4 and G-1 have maximum number of cloves per bulb, yield of bulb per plant and number of stomata per microscopic field, respectively. Significant variability was found for all characters in different genotypes. Top Keywords Garlic, variability, Heritability. Top |
