Abstract

In exercise of adult franchise, one of the most important factors that determine the voting behaviour of a person is his or her knowledge about the political leaders, political system and political situations. Infact, it is a function of the size, range, and constraint of individuals’ information about politics. In simple words political awareness can be understood as a person's knowledge about political happenings, political process and political institutions operating in the locality or surrounding. Therefore, electorates’ awareness of their leaders, system and situations is of immense importance to make the Panchayati Raj as a medium of Local Self Governance a grand success. With this background, the present study makes an attempt to study electorates’ awareness of the Panchayat Raj in Mebo Sub-Division of Arunachal Pradesh. In addition, it endeavours to analyze electorates’ awareness of their Panchayat leaders under three layers in the study area.
