Abstract

Evaluation of papaya cultivars under field condition against viral infections revealed that among all the varieties, minimum papaya ringspot disease incidence of 22.22 and 27.77 per cent was recorded in Harichaap during 2004 - 05 and 2005 - 06, respectively. Papaya leaf curl disease incidence varied from 2.66 - 30.88 per cent and 2.11- 32.55 per cent during 2004 - 05 and 2005 - 06, respectively. Out of 16 varieties, variety Harichaap was found resistant against papaya ringspot disease during 2004 - 05, next year it was found as moderately resistant. Four varieties viz., C02, C06, MF1 and Pusa Majesty were found moderately, 8 varieties were showed reaction susceptible and 2 as highly susceptible during both years. Fifteen varieties were found moderately resistant against papaya leaf curl disease during both years, while variety C04 was moderately resistant during 2005 - 06. Varieties Harichaap and MF1 showed multiple disease resistance against both diseases.
