Abstract A six year old female dog was presented to Department of Veterinary Pathology for necropsy. Necropsy examination revealed multifocal yellowish-white areas in the hepatic parenchyma. Microscopically, the hepatic parenchyma showed granulomatous reaction composed of fibrous tissue with infiltration of mononuclear cells and occasionally plasma cells surrounding groups of bipolar, operculated ova, bile crystals and mineralized debris. The eggs showed characteristic bipolar lids positive for glycoprotein with Periodic acid Schiff staining. Based on gross, microscopic and parasitologcal examination, it was diagnosed as hepatic capillariasis; a condition caused by infection of Capillaria hepatica (a nematode in the family Trichuridae) which is the rare case in dogs and hence reported.
