Abstract

Forty seed samples of different rice cultivars from eastern Vidarbha zone viz. Sakoli and Navegaon Bandh (Distt. Bhandara), Sindewahi (Chandrapur) and Tharsa (Nagpur) tested 8 months after storage by blotter method showed infection of 14 fungi of 11 genera, where as 30 samples of another season from Sakoli and Sindewahi" tested immediatly after harvest carried infection of 19 fungi of 11 genera. Curvularia lunata and Fusarium moniliforme were the predominant fungi from all locations. None Of the samples of both years showed Pyricularia oryzae and few samples carried meagre infection of Bipolaris oryzae, a second important pathogen of rice in Vidarbha. Storage fungi, Aspergilli and Penicillia were predominant in stored samples than fresh samples. Among. cultivars, Suwarna, HMT (PKV), Pratap, SKL-7, Sindewahi- 5 and Kalinga were comparatively free from pathogenic fungi. Fungicides by using blotter method, revealed that Bavistin @ 0.1% and a combination of Bavistin + Thiram (1) @ 0.3 % proved superior in controlling seed borne fungi over untreated control and also resulted in high germination of rice seed.
