Abstract

An investigation conducted to determine the efficiency of pollinators in pigeonpea on the basis of their diurnal abundance and pollinating attributes revealed the abundance of megachilids. The diurnal abundance of Megachile lanata was significantly higher than others. Interaction effect of 47th standard week along with 1001–1200 h on diurnal abundance was recorded to be significantly higher than other combinations. Megachile relata and M. lanata also spent more time with anthers and stigma per visit and their working period was also higher. Thus it was observed that Megachile spp., are the most effective pollinators of pigeonpea, and M. lanata is the key pollinator.
