Abstract

The pathogenicity of the seven isolates of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), the incitant of rice bacterial blight disease was isolated from the disease samples, collected from different rice growing area of South Gujarat. They were analysed by calculating virulence frequency and extent of symptom production on two highly susceptible and two tolerant rice genotypes. The cent per cent plant were infected by all the tested isolate to cv. GR-11, TN-1, IR-64 and Masuri. The 80 per cent leaf area of GR-11 were blighted by Chikhali, Olpad and Bardpli isolate and 75 per cent leaf area of cv. TN-1 was blighted by Chikhali and Bardoli isolate. The leaf area blighted in Sisodra isolates was 45 per cent in cv. GR-11 and 40 per cent in cv. TN-1. The per cent leaf area blighted in tolerant genotypes ranges from 5 to 20 per cent. The virulence frequency was same in susceptible and tolerant genotypes in pathogenicity test of various isolates but there were much difference in leaf area blighted i.e. severity of damage produced on susceptible and tolerant genotypes. These results indicated the prevalence of diversity in Xoo in South Gujarat, as severity of BB produced by same isolate is different on different genotype.
