Online published on 2 January, 2017. Abstract Mosquito control using insecticides has been the most successful intervention known to reduce malaria prevalence or incidence. The present study was carried out to establish the properties of Artemisia nilagirica leaf extracts on larvicidal, pupicidal, and mosquito repellent activity against the malarial vector, Anopheles stephensi. Chloroform leaf extract of Artemisia nilagirica exhibited the highest larval and pupal mortality than petroleum ether, n-hexane, ethanol, methanol and aqueous extract. LC50values for larval mortality 108.33ppm 1st instar, 127.27ppm 2nd instar, 145.45ppm 3rd instar and 181.81ppm 4th instar, and 225ppm pupal mortality was observed, with no mortality in the control. The result was quite significant with leaf extract of Artemisia nilagirica for controlling malarial vector Anopheles stephensi. Since, mosquito were container breeder vector, this ecofriendly and low-cost vector control strategy could be a viable solution for the existing malaria disease burden.
